What is Reiki?
Reiki is a technique or method that is based firmly on the esoteric principles that were represented in Japan in the early part of last century. Usui brought together, in a unique way, the principles of Traditional Chinese Medicine, energy transfer techniques like Chi Kung (in its Japanese form of kiko), Tendai Buddhism in terms of energy exercises, empowerments and spiritual teachings, and Shintoism in terms of techniques used to control the energies. The symbols that came to be used later in Reiki's history also have their roots in Tendai Buddhism and Shintoism. This was done in a way that allows anyone to be connected permanently to a source of healing energy, and being able to channel it without having to undergo many years of practice, and they can learn to pass this ability on to other people very simply.

It is a vibrant life force, the free flowing of which produces good health. When the energy level is low or blocked, the immune system is weakened, and there is a higher susceptibility to illness or dis-ease within the body

When a Reiki practitioner channels energy through their hands to the recipient, the innate ability of the body to heal itself is kick started, rather like placing jump leads from one car battery to another to get the engine in the other car going. Thus Reiki could be regarded as the Japanese equivalent of spiritual healing

The source of illness is generally found in the deep unconscious level, and Reiki is an intelligent energy, working on physical, emotional, mental and spiritual levels, treating both the cause and effect of disease or discomfort, going to exactly where it is needed

Receiving regular Reiki treatments, or being able to channel Reiki for oneself, is a beautiful and simple way of aligning the personality with the soul, leading you to a happier, healthier and more balanced life. When you live in harmony with your unique path in life, it becomes a joy to realise your potential, instead of hard work!

Can any animal benefit from Reiki?
Dogs love the calming effect of Reiki

Cats are very sensitive to energy and adore a reiki treatment.

It is possinle for very nervous rabbits to be given reiki from a distance.

Tanks or vivariums can be given reiki as it flows to their inhabitants, this is also true for fish.

Birds can be treated either through the bars of their cage or if tame, whilst perching on the practitioner's hand.

Smaller animals enjoy being treated on the practitioner's lap but if too nervous can be treated through the cage bars .

Cats can be treated in a pet carrier if very nervous.
What are the Reiki principles?

Reiki practitioners try to live by the reiki principles every day. I firmly believe we could all improve our lives if we try to stick to these ideas for a happy life.

Reiki for pampered pets

Give your pet a treat!

Your pet doesn't need to have a behavioural or health problem to enjoy reiki. Some people like to treat their pet to a Reiki pampering. Others want to give something back as if to say thank you for the love their pets give them every day.
